After listening to narrow minded, short sighted naysayers for years, the proof is finally out – PV can and does help reduce electricity prices, Photon International recently reported.
We’ve been arguing this for years but now the European Electricity Exchange has reacted as only market forces can, to lower the spot price because so much PV capacity was on line.
This is highly significant and I hope, will shake the aging, conservative steam-powered managers of the worlds utilities into a new sense of reality. “HEY GUYS – YOU CAN PROFIT FROM PV!!!!”
Sure, we aren’t there yet but its coming and coming faster all the time. By the end of 2011, we’ll have around 1GW of PV installed in Australia around 350MW of which will be in NSW.
Its a small contribution today, but clearly one that has enormous potential -the potential to lower electricity prices in the medium term, not increase them.
